Meet Sara - she'll never give up on you!

On which courses are you a tutor?

English and Maths Functional Skills.

Why did you become a tutor?

I’ve worked in a Primary and Secondary school as an Intervention Support for all subjects, with a focus on core subjects. After leaving a few years ago I found I truly missed the role and working as a part-time tutor is a perfect solution.

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of the courses you deliver?

I love finding new ways to deliver a topic. Seeing learners gain in confidence, achieve the grades they need and then apply for the jobs/career they want is the most satisfying.

What experiences of your own do you bring to the courses?

There’s always a way to understand a topic. We each have different ways of learning and understanding – I just do my very best to find your way…I never give up. I’m very annoying in that way!

What do you love about working for Somerset Skills and Learning?

The ability to work slightly outside the normal parameters of a curriculum. The senior team provide great support for learners and staff.

What advice would you give to anyone considering your courses?

Try it. Don’t think because you haven’t achieved in the past you’ll never achieve. For some it may take longer, but we will do our very best to support your aim.

If you were stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?

Can I have a few… do they have to be alive?  Jane Austen to discuss novels, Charlie Brooker to discuss screenplays, Richard Branson to wangle an invite to his island and Daniel Craig to discuss many things.

What is your most annoying habit?

Always looking for a solution and being ‘Tiggerish’.
