The intention of the Chrysalis/Butterfly project (Butterfly Moments training) is to involve Somerset residents of all ages and abilities in arts-based activities to improve an understanding of dementia through innovative learning and help improve your sense of health and well-being as the county emerges from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
This project will bring together people from across Somerset to achieve a greater understanding of dementia, while improving health and wellbeing by rebuilding abilities, knowledge, mental wellbeing, support networks and encouraging further learning as you emerge from lockdown. As a part of the community, we will help you to increase your knowledge of dementia, in a dynamic and innovative way.
As well as building on your dementia understanding, you will learn how to create and design an individually hand-crafted butterfly. This will be a part of a huge installation, representing the 9000 people (approximately) with a dementia in the county and will be part of a series of activities in July 2021.
The dementia workshops will be facilitated by Reminiscence Learning Tutors and community artists who will use the creative and learning process to encourage discussion about experiences during COVID, helping build confidence and skills, and strengthen your own support network. We aim to do these as face-to-face workshops where you will be able to socially integrate with likeminded members of your community.
