This taster workshop forms the introduction to the drawing and painting four step progression pathway course which offers a comprehensive and practical introduction to the fundamentals of art practice.
This session takes place online using Zoom providing an opportunity for you to meet with the tutor, to ask questions and to discover more about our online drawing and painting four step courses.
Many people find beginning a creative art practice a little overwhelming due to the bewildering variety of art materials and supplies available in our shops today. The objective of this taster class is to simplify art materials so that you may make informed choices about which art supplies will help you to enhance your own creative journey. We will be exploring the wet and dry mediums most used in art practice.
Contemporary research shows us that creating art brings with it many surprising health and wellbeing benefits. Making art can reduce stress, increase happiness, encourage self-expression and expand critical thinking. This innovative course has been designed for beginners to improvers and for those interested in exploring a new, creative, fun and relaxing pastime. This course is also well suited for those who wish to progress on to further or higher-level art education.
No materials are required for this introductory taster session as it is presented in an informal seminar style however, you may wish to have pen and paper for note taking.
There are no formal assessments for this course. The tutor will give regular feedback to help you improve.
At the end of this workshop, if you’d like to continue with your learning in this subject, you’ll be able to progress onto our Drawing & Painting Starter Course or other art-based Starter courses.

This workshop is suitable if you have no experience in this subject and want to discover if it’s for you.

If you are aged 19+ AND are unemployed AND receive a benefit / your annual income is less than £25,000 per year AND live in Somerset (not including Bath & North East Somerset) AND you have lived in the UK/EU for the last 3 years OR you have refugee status / right to remain. *Please note – proof of eligibility will be requested during the enrolment process.

If you are aged 19+ AND your annual income is over £25,000 and live in Somerset OR you live in Bath & North East Somerset OR you live anywhere else in the UK. Some Community partners may not be able to accommodate learners from outside Somerset. This will be highlighted during enrolment.
Our funding rules have changed – how this affects you…
You can only enrol on ONE free* workshop/course at each level, e.g. one Taster, one Starter… and so on. Our new levels are designed to encourage you to learn and progress in your chosen area of interest. If you enrol on multiple workshops/courses at the same level, we’ll contact you to discuss (as there are exceptions), or you’ll be given the opportunity to pay for your place, (costs are detailed on each course page).
