Course overview

This course is suitable for anyone looking to explore and gain knowledge and awareness based around helping relationships such as counselling, coaching and generally looked to build knowledge and awareness to become a skilled helper perhaps professionally, voluntary or help others in general. Anyone looking to enhance and build skills for building helping relationships with a genuine interest in listening and helping others to move forward in a positive way.

Within this short workshop, we start to explore the characteristics and skills of helping relationships, the differences between skilled helpers and counsellors, different helping relationships.

We will start to explore communication, qualities, skills, and knowledge required to be a listening helper - specifically the importance of being an Active Listener, which is the foundation for helping conversations in many different contexts and gain a foundational understanding of Emotional Intelligence, which underpins any helping relationship. We will look at self- understanding and reflection - knowing yourself and your personal qualities are a key component to an effective, helping relationship.

There are many situations in life where we find ourselves in the role of helper, whether it is at work, at home, within volunteering, with friends, family, colleagues etc. This workshop explores some of the main skills to consider and develop needed to help others.
