If you want to study towards L2 Functional Skills English or maths and have good independent learning skills, this course is for you. This is a workshop where you will be supported to gain your qualification by one of our expert tutors who will guide you through your learning journey from induction to completion. You will be given access to high quality online resources and your tutor will set you targets to help you to focus on achieving your goal.
L2 Functional Skills is a nationally recognised qualification which will improve your chances of getting a job or changing career, help you at work and with everyday activities.
Functional Skills English will cover a range of topics, such as punctuation, spelling, grammar, reading, speaking and listening strategies.
Functional Skills maths will cover a range of topics such as number, measure and handling data.
Functional Skills are about using English and maths in the real world, so the topics will be put into an everyday, practical context to enable you to apply your knowledge and skills to real-life situations.

Functional Skills English - at the end of the course you will take exams in reading and writing. There will also be a speaking and listening assessment
Functional Skills maths – at the end of the course you will take an exam
On completion of Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications, some learners have progressed on to a GCSE qualification in English or maths or enrolled on to an apprenticeship or Digital Skills course.
Need to know…
No formal qualifications or experience are required for this course. There will be an initial assessment to decide if this is the correct course for you. Ideally, you will have completed Functional Skills at Level 1.
If you are living in a devolved area, you will not be eligible for funding for this course.
You will need to meet minimum requirements on your initial assessments to be eligible for this course.
To be eligible for government subsidised fees for this course, you must:
● be aged 19 or over as at 31 August 2023
● have lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years
● currently reside in England
You could be eligible for 100% reduction in the published fees if you meet one of the following criteria:
● You do not currently have a 9 – 4 (A* - C) in GCSE maths or English
● You do not have a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification
