Course overview

This free course will help you improve your skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification: City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2.

The programme is designed to:

● Develop your skills and confidence in all areas of maths

● Help you at work

● Improve your chances of getting a job or changing career

● Help you with day-to-day activities such as shopping and paying household bills

● Enable you to progress onto other courses like GCSEs

The course will teach you a range of topics including numbers, measures and handling data. Functional Skills Maths is about using maths in the real world, so these topics will be put into an everyday, practical context to enable you to apply your knowledge and skills to real-life situations.

Current groups are

Bridgwater - Tues - 14:00-16:00

Taunton - Wed - 12:30-14:30

Yeovil - Wed - 10:00-12:00

Online - Tue or Wed 18:00-20:00

Course assessment

Our expert tutors will work with you to build a course and resources to suit your learning style and help steer you towards achieving your goal and qualification. The duration of your course will vary depending on level and learning required, but the average course will last between four and nine months.

Practising what you have learnt during your lessons will improve your chances of success. Your tutor will give you homework on a regular basis and will recommend books and free online resources so you can study independently.

Course progression

On completion of this course, previous students have progressed on to an English course, moved on to GCSE Maths or enrolled on a course to improve their computer skills.

Entry Requirements:

No formal qualifications or experience are required for this course. You will have an initial assessment to decide which level is best for you.

Eligibility criteria applies. Courses will run subject to enrolments and funding.

If you are living in a devolved area, you will not be eligible for funding for this course.

You will need to meet minimum requirements on your initial assessments to be eligible for this course.

To be eligible for government subsidised fees for this course, you must:

● be aged 19 or over as at 31 August 2022

● have lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years

● currently reside in England

● You do not currently have a 9 – 4 (A* - C) in GCSE Maths

● You do not have a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification
