Course overview

Maths is for everyone. It is diverse, engaging and essential in equipping you with the right skills to reach your future destination, whatever that may be. A GCSE in Mathematics at grade 4 or above is an essential qualification for many jobs. The GCSE Mathematics course aims to improve your confidence in Mathematics and give you the knowledge and skills to pass GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 or higher.

This course covers a two-year school course in only nine months so you can achieve your goals quickly. It is suitable for anyone needing to gain GCSE Mathematics grade 4 or above: this offers access to higher courses, including A-level and some professional training, and gives confidence in helping your children with their schoolwork.

The course follows the syllabus laid down by AQA exam board.

Classes will be delivered online or in a centre each week during school terms, starting in September and ending with your exams in late May/early June.

** Please be aware that in the event we do not meet the minimum number of learners to deliver the course at one of our SS&L centres, you will be offered a place on one of our online courses. **

Course assessment

You will be required to attend an enrolment session prior to the course start date, and three exams in late May/early June in one of our local centres in Somerset even if you are studying online.

There will be opportunity for individual learning, small group work, and full group sessions. Progress will be measured through your work, and by regular assessments. Your tutor will give individual feedback in tutorial sessions.

Homework will be given on a regular basis as this will improve your chance of success. Your tutor will also recommend books, websites etc. so you can study independently.

Course progression

A GCSE in Mathematics at grade 4 or above is an essential qualification for many jobs. It is also needed if you want to undertake further training for professional qualifications, for instance, teaching and nursing, or if you want to go to university. You may want to continue your study by taking GCSE English Language or exploring our other available courses on our website.

Need to know…

Entry Requirements:

A good general level of numeracy is essential for this course. Functional Skills Mathematics L2 or GCSE Mathematics grade 3/D is desirable. You will be given an initial assessment at your enrolment session to establish your working level.

You will be required to sit three exams in late May and early June in one of our local centres in Somerset so you must be prepared and able to travel if you do not live locally.

If you choose to enrol on one of our online courses, it is essential that you have good IT skills, as well as access to a laptop or computer with internet, a webcam and a microphone to get the most out of your online lessons.

Eligibility criteria applies. Courses will run subject to enrolments and funding.

If you are living in a devolved area, you will not be eligible for funding for this course.

You will need to meet minimum requirements on your initial assessments to be eligible for this course.

To be eligible for government subsidised fees for this course, you must:

● be aged 19 or over as at 31 August 2024

● lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years

● You must currently reside in England outside of · Cambridgeshire and Peterborough · Greater Manchester · Greater London · Liverpool City Region · Tees Valley · West Midlands · North of Tyne · Sheffield City Region · West Yorkshire · West of England (WECA – covering Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire)

You could be eligible for 100% reduction in the published fees if you meet one of the following criteria:

● You do not currently have a A*-C / 9-4 in GCSE Maths and are enrolling on GCSE Maths

● You do not currently have a A*-C / 9-4 in GCSE English and are enrolling on GCSE English Language
