Course overview

Join Best Practice Network (BPN) to learn how to achieve your Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status! This course comprises of 2 days of training to understand how to build your portfolio of evidence to achieve your HLTA status.

HLTA status is recognition of your ability to work at a higher level with increased responsibility.

The two day preparation for assessment programme is designed to:

● Explain and explore the HLTA standards, making relevant links to school policy and practice

● Provide clear guidance on how to complete the written tasks and compile a portfolio of evidence

● Offer formative feedback on the development of the written tasks and portfolio

● Prepare you for your meetings with an assessor

● Support you by providing engaging online activities to check your understanding between preparation sessions

SS&L are working in partnership with BPN to promote this course. When enrolling, learners will be prompted to select their TSA/School Network, please select Somerset Skills & Learning form the list available.

Course assessment

The assessment will usually take place 4-10 working weeks after the final preparation session.

Details of how, where and when to submit your tasks are explained by the tutor.

Course progression

This course promotes highly positive impact on schools and outcomes for children and young people. HLTAs report greatly improved confidence, self-esteem and aspirations.

This course provides cost-effective, home grown cover for PPA and other needs and enhances knowledge, expertise and skills in supporting learning.

It’s perfect career progression for HLTAs and mentors, and can support progression to QTS.

On completion of your HLTA, you may wish to complete a Level 5 qualification in teaching and learning.

You may also wish to specialise in a particular learning area and look at other short course that can support this. This could be a course in Specific Learning Difficulties or Autism.

Need to know…

Entry Requirements:

Learners are required to be an experienced Teaching Assistant working in an educational setting, with children and young people aged 3-18, with the ability to advance learning for individuals, groups, and whole classes.

Applicants will need to hold a Level 2 qualification or higher in English and maths.

BPN require an investment of £290 +VAT for preparation and £450 for assessment paid by employer to Best Practice Network.
