Mind in Somerset’s Introduction to Suicide Intervention Support Skills workshop has been designed to increase suicide alertness and community confidence to engage with individuals who have thoughts of suicide and/or are at risk to self, by supporting them to stay safe. The workshop explores, barriers to talking, engaging people with

further support and the importance of understanding limitations, boundaries, and self-care.

By the end of the workshop participants can expect to have:

- Increased confidence in engaging and responding to individuals who talk about suicide and be able to talk with

an individual about suicide risk using a ‘Safety talk’ approach

- Increased confidence in supporting and empowering an individual to stay safe

- Knowledge of when and how to alert emergency services

- Knowledge of when and how to signpost into local services and an awareness of local support

- An understanding of the importance of self-care when supporting a person who has thoughts of suicide

Essential Requirements

Please read before enrolling onto this course:  

Learners are required to attend a pre-course and post-course, telephone meeting with one of our tutors and must be available to speak with one of our team on the following dates to be accepted onto this course:

Pre course induction telephone call: 1st or 3rd March 2022

Workshop: Online via Zoom, Friday 4th March

Post course review telephone call: 8th or 10th March 2022

Once enrolled you will receive an email from Mind in Somerset, within 3 working days of registering. This email will contain a link for you to book both your pre and post course calls. Once actioned you will receive an invitation to attend the course with supporting documents. Failure to book your call or attend may result in you being removed from the course and an administration fee applied.

Course progression

This course will allow you to increase your involvement in local community support, improve social relationships, develop your personal and work related skills.  

There is ongoing support & guidance provided by our expert tutors throughout your learning journey and your post course review will allow an opportunity to be signposted onto recommended courses to further underpin and develop your knowledge in this subject area (mental health).

Entry Requirements:

All learners are required to complete a pre-course and post course call with one of our tutors in order to secure their space on this workshop.

Suitable for community learners and professionals within Somerset.

This course is free for those aged 19+ with a Somerset home address (B&NES and North Somerset not included) and have lived in the UK or European economic area for the last 3 years

Please note that Mind in Somerset incurs significant fees for non-attendance on the dates listed and therefore reserves the right to issue an £80 administration fee to those who do not complete the course after enrolling without a minimum of 5 working days prior notice of withdrawal
