This qualification encourages an understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. It covers children’s growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development.
It also shares units with the Entry Level 3 in Caring for a Child/Children qualifications and the Level 1 Personal and Social Development qualifications.
This course is delivered face to face by our expert Early Years tutor team, every 2 weeks, with regular enrolment points for new learners. We currently offer an online option on Fridays.
Note: This course can be accessed alone, or, as part of a 16-19, 19+, Traineeship or Study Programme funded free course.
It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.
The Award requires 10 credits.
This course is assessed internally through learner coursework. There are no exams in this course.
Learners can access courses in SS&L provision through a number of funded and commercial pathways.

There are a number of natural progression routes into Early Years Level 2 and 3 courses.
This course is for absolute beginners and the more experienced amongst you. You don't need any qualifications, just a willingness to learn and lots of enthusiasm.
This qualification is suitable for you if you are considering a career in caring for children. It could also support you with re-engaging with learning and break down barriers to you entering the childcare workforce.
