Course overview

Join this practical course in community entrepreneurship and learn how to turn ideas into reality, gain lots of transferable skills, meet like-minded people, grow confidence, and boost a local community enterprise.

The course is comprised of five modules and a practical start-up challenge. Modules focus on building community, conducting research, developing good ideas, project planning, and, finally, implementation. Learners have the opportunity to practice and try new skills ranging from design skills to event management to social media marketing, among many others.

The course is open to all ages, from young people starting out in need of skills, experience, and direction to purpose-led career changes looking for a new direction in life.

Start-up is best for those who enjoy learning by doing and are up for a challenge.

The next course runs from 15 April to 27 June 2024 and is based in Frome. We’re keen to hear from everyone who is interested - even if the dates and times don’t quite work for you, we can flex so you can participate. We can also help you find a place to stay in Frome if you plan to travel from outside of Frome.

Start-up has been running for the past ten years and has seeded many Frome businesses and initiatives, including the UK's first library of things and the UK's first community fridge, among many others.
