Course overview

Bring your little ones for lots of outdoor fun on our nature reserve, plus build your confidence in playing outdoors with them, learn about local wildlife and have fun in the wild too!

This course is for parents/carers and their children aged 1.5 - 4 years, (younger siblings welcome). Each adult can bring up to two children.

This course involves 5 Thursday morning sessions, each running from 10.00- 12.00.

Each of the five sessions is themed around different local wildlife: Trees, woodland minibeasts, pond minibeasts, birds and spring flowers. We include lots of fun activities for you and your child to do together. Activities include things like muddy play, natural crafts, wildlife exploration, imaginative play, songs and more!

Each session starts with a simple indoor activity at our Education Centre while everyone arrives and then we take a gentle walk down to the woods (10 minutes approx. at toddler pace), looking for wildlife on the way, (you are very welcome to bring a buggy for this if you feel your child will struggle). Once in the woods we normally stop for a quick snack break in our woodland shelter (we will provide water and biscuits for everyone, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks to supplement this).

After snack time there are lots of different fun activities linked to the week’s animal theme. These are free-flow activities set out around our woodland space, for you and your child to explore at your own pace. We normally end each session coming back to the woodland shelter for some songs, before walking back to our Education Centre.

Sessions will go ahead in all weathers, apart from strong winds, (when we may need to either use an alternative outdoor space away from tree-cover or postpone to another day) so please wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions on the day.

What previous participants have said:

‘We are already an outdoorsy family but have been inspired to get out even more following the course. I really like the structure of the sessions and the variety of activities available.’ Dani

‘I honestly would struggle to encourage improvement - the course is amazing. It is so varied, caters to 1-4 age group, challenges children, encourages children, teachers are kind and inclusive. We lucked out with the weather which made a difference. Please continue. I have recommended to everyone I know.’ Aislinn
