Cost
This course can be fully funded (FREE) for people who:
- Are 19 years old or older
- Live in Somerset (but not Bath & North-East Somerset or North Somerset) or Dorset
- Have lived in the UK or EU for the past 3 years or have permission to stay (leave to remain)
- Have a job with an annual income of less than £25,000 or are unemployed and receiving benefits.
You will need to show proof that you meet these requirements. If you do not meet these requirements, the course can cost up to £741 but the exact price will depend on the level that you will be studying. Please contact us for more information.
Duration
The course can take up to 6 months to complete and so may not be suitable if you will only be in the UK for a short time.
Entry Requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications to join the course. You will need to complete online initial assessments in Reading and Writing so that the tutor can recommend the right learning pathway for you.
If studying online, you will need access to a computer and a reliable internet connection. As this course leads to a formal qualification, you need to attend classes regularly.
Assessment
You will be assessed in 4 skills:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking and Listening
You can take each assessment when your tutor feels that you are ready. You will need to attend the SS&L centre in Bridgwater, Frome, Taunton or Yeovil to complete the assessment.
Progression
At the end of the course, you will discuss future options with your tutor. You may choose to continue to improve your English by taking further ESOL courses or the Functional Skills English course. Your tutor will also signpost you to other courses available within SS&L or with external organisations. Explore the full range of workshops and courses from SS&L – there are many to choose from!
