What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a real job with paid work experience, giving you valuable hands-on experience and providing you with the qualifications and experience that you need to develop your career.
Business administration apprentice Ryan tells us why an apprenticeship was right for him…
What apprenticeships are available?
We offer a variety of apprenticeships including teaching, childcare, customer service, business administration, animal care and leadership & management – visit our apprenticeship vacancies page or career path page to explore your options.
Watch the video below for your guide on how to find an apprenticeship, plus further stories from our apprentices!
How much will it cost and what could I earn?
Apprenticeships are free, which means there are no student loans to pay back.
As an apprentice you would normally work a minimum of 30 hours a week and the minimum wage for an apprentice is £5.28 an hour (from 01/04/23). Employers often pay more than the minimum and you can expect to earn at least £200 per week (dependent on hours and employer) while you are training.
How long will it take to complete the apprenticeship and what do you get at the end?
After a minimum of 12 months you will have completed your apprenticeships, many apprenticeships run for 12-18 months and you’ll be ready to take the next steps. You will have some great work experience behind you, gained skills and knowledge and you’ll be ready to progress to the next level or secure permanent employment.
What are the next steps after an apprenticeship?
There is no set route after you complete your apprenticeship, many of our apprentices have; moved onto a higher-level apprenticeship, secured a permanent contract or progressed to higher education.
The great thing about apprenticeships is that you can always keep progressing and learning!

When and where will I be learning?
Our apprenticeships run at multiple locations across Somerset. Typically, you would come into one of our centres for a tutor led session once or twice a month during your apprenticeship, the rest of the time you would be in the workplace learning on the job. Some apprenticeships also offer full remote delivery over Zoom.
