What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work, an apprenticeship or further study, and it lasts between six weeks and six months. You can start a traineeship at any time during the year.

Who is a traineeship for?

A traineeship is for people aged 16-24** who work less than 16 hours a week (or are unemployed) with little or no work experience, who hold no qualifications or are qualified to level 3 or below.

Team Leader Kate answers your traineeship questions…

What does it cover?

You’ll get help with achieving Maths and English qualifications – if you need them, and you’ll get exposure to the world of work to improve your employability through gaining knowledge, skills, experience and confidence. We provide a supportive and safe work experience placement where you can develop the behaviours needed to succeed in the workplace.

How do I get a work placement?

We can match you to one of our vacancies or help you to contact local employers. We have had trainees in construction, care, animal care, childcare, car mechanics, hairdressing and many more! We will help you to find the right placement for you.

When and where will I be learning?

Our traineeships run at multiple locations in Somerset. All of our traineeship courses are tailored to you, but a typical trainee week is made up of one day a week with us working on qualifications and skills, plus two to four days a week at your work placement.

What do I get when I complete the course?

You’ll get qualifications in English & maths – if you didn’t have them before. You’ll also gain contacts for references, and a certificate upon completion. Plus, depending on how you get on with your placement, you may get an interview with the company for an apprenticeship or a job role if they have vacancies. Once you have completed your traineeship, we are here to support you with your next step.

What can a traineeship lead to?

Traineeships are a great way to get into the world of work. Many of our trainees go on to become apprentices, others are now in full time work and enjoying the benefits of working life, and some have gone on to further study. Whatever your goals, contact us to start your traineeship journey.
