Hair, Beauty & Barbering

With the skills you develop you’ll never be out of work – people always need a haircut. You can work for a salon or be self-employed, and the job can work around family life and be as flexible as you are.

Hairdressers and barbers are some of the least stressed work force in the UK. This can be one of the best jobs, where you meet some amazing people and can even travel the world. There are plenty of opportunities to upskill and employers are usually willing to invest in your growth and development.

Plus, there are always lots of competitions in the hairdressing industry to help you make a name for yourself.

We partner with specialist training provider L&F Training to bring you the best Hairdressing & Barbering Apprenticeships.

Why should I choose L&F Training as my training provider?

What qualities do I need to succeed in hairdressing?

To succeed in hairdressing, you need to have excellent communication, social skills, be creative, passionate about fashion and hair and have a methodical approach to working, with a strong attention to detail. You need to be trustworthy, honest, reliable, and have good listening skills.

What might be difficult for me?

There can be a few obstacles that you might experience, which could include securing a salon placement and working out travel to work. Balancing your studies with your full-time apprenticeship can also be tricky, but you’ll be assigned an expert tutor to help you through it, to ensure you’re progressing at a pace to suit you.

What support is available?

At L&F you’ll be in a small group of around eight students, have reviews with an assigned assessor and regular contact with L&F admin staff. Alongside your workplace experience, you’ll gain practical knowledge through your apprenticeship studies to achieve a multitude of styles.

What’s in it for me?

Get paid to train! On completion you’ll receive an VTCT Professional Standard or NVQ qualification that is recognised both nationally and internationally within the industry. This will open doors to a varied career and job satisfaction. The apprenticeship is a real opportunity for you to get involved with an established salon, grow your skill set and perhaps even design some of the styles of the future!

I’ve qualified – what next?

When you first start a hairdressing apprenticeship (Level 2), you can expect a role as a Junior or Trainee stylist. As you progress through to the advanced levels (Level 3), you’ll be taking on a roll as a junior stylist with more complex tasks and responsibilities enabling you to learn all the skills you need. You could also consider gaining a qualification in barbering, beauty, teaching or assessing. Level 3 is recognised internationally, giving you the opportunity to travel and work abroad or on cruise liners. There are plenty of areas to work within this industry from cosmetology educator/instructor or assessor, to artistic director for brands, celebrity stylist, fashion show stylist, platform artist, editorial/advertising stylist or a salon owner/manager and more!

When and where will I be learning?

These apprenticeships run at L&F in Highbridge and a range of other locations throughout Somerset. The apprenticeship course is tailored to you, but a typical week is made up of one day at an L&F Training Academy and four days working for your employer.
