A Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLS) apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge needed to assist in a classroom on a day-to-day basis.
In this role you’ll provide support for pupils of any age range, including those with special educational needs, disabilities and emotional vulnerabilities, to understand the work that has been set for them, stay on track and make continual progress..
We focus on you as an individual and create plans to ensure you can succeed. We have knowledgeable and experienced tutors that deliver interactive and varied lessons. We work flexibly to suit your needs and those of your employer. You can join at any time of the year.
You need to be patient and motivated, with great communication skills. You must have a desire to do your very best for pupils and your reward will be seeing their faces light up each time they learn something new. The ability to work as part of a team is essential and willingness to reflect on and improve your knowledge and skills.
You may find family commitments difficult to juggle or adjusting to your working hours and time needed to study. Our tutors are here to help you!
Your tutor will create an individual plan and guide you throughout your studying. We will also provide support when you complete your course regarding next steps or further qualifications and training. We can also help you with maths and English qualifications, if you need them. For more information please visit our learning support page.
You’ll gain all the knowledge and skills required to succeed within a teaching career, earning whilst you learn! On successful completion of the course, you’ll receive a nationally recognised qualification, improving your opportunities to further a career in Primary, Secondary or Special Educational settings. Also, many apprentices are offered permanent employment with their current employer once qualified or you may be able to progress onto the next level.
Those who successfully complete the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools can progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
On completion of the Level 2 STLS Certificate, it’s possible to progress to Level 3, which can then be followed by the Level 4 Certificate for Advanced Practitioners in Schools and College.
