On which courses are you a tutor?
I teach Business Administration (and Social Care).
Why did you become a tutor?
Having already achieved my Training, Assessment & Quality Assurance (TAQA) qualification, I wanted to make the move into Apprenticeships and the Adult Education sector. I had been delivering training/workshops; advising on qualifications and verifying the Care Certificate in my previous role, so the opportunity to combine teaching and assessing with SS&L was perfect.
What do you think is the most interesting aspect of the courses you deliver?
Meeting and getting to know the students and their employers. Also, seeing the opportunities the students get in the workplace as a result of the apprenticeship/qualification.
What experiences of your own do you bring to the courses?
I had a wide ranging careers in Events Management; Learning and Development; Training; Safety & Social Care, all of which have required a lot of admin, organizational, ICT and interpersonal skills. I have previously worked for English Heritage; administering safety and training in the Overhead Lines service; as a civilian for the Military in a training role; and L&D & qualifications for a Local Authority in the Adult Social Care sector.
What do you love about working for Somerset Skills and Learning?
The great people that I work with and the opportunities SS&L offers to so many people.
If you were stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?
I wouldn’t be stuck in a lift as I don’t use them! I prefer to use the stairs for exercise.
What is your most annoying habit?
I am a bit (a lot) of a control freak and according to my husband I am a passenger-seat driver!
