On which courses are you a tutor?

I am currently teaching two GCSE English courses, Functional English courses and I will also be teaching some ESOL classes in the future.

Why did you become a tutor?

I trained to become a teacher 10 years ago. I’d had experience teaching English as a second language in my twenties and I’d really enjoyed the experience.

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of the courses you deliver?

I’m really enjoying the challenge of feeding back to learners on the work they produce. It’s a learning curve at the moment delivering online lessons, but I’m enjoying the camaraderie, as we all get to grips with it together!

What experiences of your own do you bring to the courses?

I’ve worked in a number of industries before teaching, including book publishing, journalism and TV research. Before teaching at SS&L, I taught at a large FE college in SW London.

What do you love about working for Somerset Skills and Learning?

Everyone is so helpful and efficient, as well as being welcoming.

What advice would you give to anyone considering your courses?

Learning on a course – whether GCSE, Functional Skills or ESOL – is such a fruitful experience. Not only do you hone and improve your English skills, but the other students can be so helpful and it can be a great way to meet people and support each other.

If you were stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?

I’m currently reading an Anita Brookner novel so I’d love to chat with her, (if she were alive).

What is your most annoying habit?

I’m told I can be competitive!
