Welcoming you back to our centres

Returning to an SS&L centre while social distancing is still in place

At SS&L we’ve worked hard to ensure our centres are ready to welcome you back, so you can continue your learning in a safe environment. You’ll probably notice a few changes when you arrive at the centre, as well as in the classroom. All changes are in line with government guidance, which we continue to monitor closely and have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of all those who access our centres.

As it stands, you’re not required to wear a facemask while you’re sat at a desk in a classroom. In order to ensure the safety of you and our staff, you’ll notice that we’ve made a few changes to the classrooms to ensure that social distancing can be maintained during classroom sessions. We would like to ask that when arriving at or departing from one of our centres, you continue to follow the social distancing guidance set out by the government. This also applies when leaving the classroom for a break or to use the facilities.

You will be required to:

  • Maintain social distancing while waiting to enter the centre or classroom – your tutor will meet you at the entrance of the centre.
  • Arrive/leave promptly – we have staggered class times in order to avoid congestion in communal areas.
  • Sanitize your hands regularly.
  • Do not move between workstations unless told to by a staff member.
  • Wear a face covering in communal areas including toilets – this will apply to staff too.

In the classrooms, we’re working to the 1M+ guidance and have installed sneeze screens between computers. Group working around central tables will be restricted depending on the group size. The classrooms are cleaned at night and wiped down by your tutor between sessions, but if you feel you’d like to also wipe down your workstation, alcohol wipes will be available for you to do so.

At SS&L we recognise that there are people who would feel more comfortable taking extra precautions, like wearing a facemask while in class. This could be because of a health condition and the need to take additional steps or could be a personal preference. We’d like everyone to feel comfortable and ask that you respect other people’s decisions in how they guard themselves against COVID-19.

If you do have any concerns or you feel there’s something more we could be doing, please speak to an SS&L staff member and we will do what we can to ensure you’re able to continue your learning in a healthy and safe way.
