Do you have an EHCP? Want to improve your work skills? Fancy working in Hospitality, Retail, Business or Customer Service? If this is you, read on to see if you could be one of the successful students to take part in our Supported Internship programme in partnership with Young Somerset.

Course Overview

Supported internships in the UK are designed for young people aged 16 to 24 who have learning difficulties or disabilities and need extra support to move into employment.

The Supported Internship is divided into:

· Work experience alongside your work coach (4 days a week) and

· Learning with a dedicated tutor (1 day a week)

Supported internships help interns develop the transferrable skills and knowledge needed for a paid job and can also improve confidence, self-esteem, wellbeing, and social life.

There are also many benefits for employers.

Requirements

You will need to be keen to undertake work experience for 4 days a week and take part in learning for 1 day a week while being committed to complete the course. (9 months)

Supported internships in the UK are designed for young people aged 16 to 24 who have learning difficulties or disabilities and are in need of extra support to move into employment. To be eligible for a supported internship, you need to have one of the following: An Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan A Statement of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) A Learning Difficulty Assessment.

These internships aim to help young people with SEND to secure and sustain employment by providing them with the necessary skills and workplace experience, with the support of an expert job coach. If you or someone you know fits this criteria and is interested in pursuing a supported internship, it’s advisable to contact local education providers or your local authority for more information on available programs.

Assessment

Subjects will be assessed through continued learning and online assessments.

There are online assessments for some of the planned delivery.

Progression

A supported internship should be the last learning opportunity before entering employment. As part of the course you will be supported by your tutor and work coach to apply for employment.

Should you wish to develop skills further, a range of courses can be researched with you to aid your progression.
