Build an understanding of mental health problems and the support available in the workplace with this Level 2 workplace mental health qualification.
Recent reports suggest that over 12 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in just one year. It’s important that employers are transparent and open about mental health issues.
Increasing the understanding of mental health among staff at all levels builds a culture of care and support. In this course, you will learn how to support individuals with their mental health, as well as what a mentally healthy environment is like.
Our Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace course is designed to give you the foundation knowledge to support colleagues with their mental health.
You will study three units:
- Exploring mental health
- Understand how to support individuals with mental ill health
- Understand a mentally healthy environment

This course can be fully funded (FREE) for people aged 19 or over who:
- live in Somerset (not including Bath & North-East Somerset/North Somerset) or Dorset
- have lived in the UK/EU for the last 3 years or have leave to remain
- meet at least one of the following:

- are employed with an annual income of less than £25,000
- are unemployed AND in receipt of benefits.
- have no qualifications of level 2 or above
Proof of eligibility will be requested.
Entry Requirements
This is an online level 2 distance-learning course. You will receive a log in for an online resources book and then you answer the questions online. You will need access to the internet and a computer/laptop to complete the coursework. You will have a named tutor in case you have any questions throughout the course.
There are no specific prior qualifications needed to access this Level 2 workplace mental health qualification, although you may find it useful to have previously achieved a Level 1 qualification. You should ideally have the equivalent of Level 1 literacy skills, however, a formal qualification is not required.
- You must currently live in Somerset/Dorset.
- You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study.
- You must be over the age of 19.
- You must not be on an apprenticeship.
There is a £100 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.
Assessment
To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the 3 units as detailed in the qualification specification.
You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task. The course is assessed via coursework, there are no exams.
Progression
This Level 2 mental health qualification will open several doors for progression opportunities. You could go on to complete a Level 3 course, or you may want to think about mental health in early years, or children and young people.
Others have also gone on to look at an apprenticeships in Early Years or education support work such as teaching assistance.
