About the role
The Associate Project Manager apprenticeship equips learners with the skills and confidence to plan, manage and deliver projects that make a real impact.
From improving internal processes to delivering organisational change, apprentices learn how to coordinate people, resources and timelines to achieve successful outcomes. Projects may vary in size and complexity, but all require clear structure, strong communication and effective leadership.
In this role, apprentices develop the skills to manage scope, budgets, risks and stakeholders, while keeping projects on track and aligned to organisational goals.
What sets this programme apart is our SS&L-exclusive Person Centred Leadership Module, delivered in collaboration with an expert leadership and management coach. This module goes beyond the core occupational standard, developing the interpersonal and leadership skills needed to motivate teams, build strong working relationships and confidently lead people through projects, not just manage tasks.
What you’ll learn
Apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to successfully support and deliver projects in a range of environments.
Key areas include:
- Planning and scheduling projects to ensure timely delivery
- Managing resources, budgets and project constraints effectively
- Identifying and mitigating risks and resolving issues
- Communicating and engaging with stakeholders at all levels
- Monitoring project performance and reporting on progress
- Understanding project lifecycles, methodologies and governance
Through our Person Centred Leadership Module, apprentices will also build the confidence to lead people effectively, developing skills in:
- Motivating and supporting team members
- Building positive working relationships
- Communicating with clarity and empathy
- Leading with accountability and professionalism

Duration & Delivery
Duration: 18-24 months
Delivery model: Blended learning including workshops, coaching, and on-the-job application
Support: Dedicated tutor with regular progress reviews
Entry Requirements
- Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).
- Commitment to 20% off-the-job training.
- Around 48 UCAS points or relevant experience
Assessment
Apprentices will complete an End-Point Assessment (EPA) to demonstrate occupational competence. This includes:
- A project or work-based portfolio
- A professional discussion or presentation
- Assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours
Apprentices will also work towards a recognised professional qualification such as the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent as part of the programme.
Progression
On completion, apprentices can progress into roles such as:
- Project Manager
- Senior Project Support Officer
- Programme Coordinator
Learners may also progress to:
- Higher-level project management apprenticeships
- Professional membership with the Association for Project Management (APM)
- Further leadership and management development
