Apprentice Celebration Story
Emma explains how apprenticeships have benefitted her career, and why she would recommend them to others!
“Apprenticeships have become an incredibly important factor in my ongoing career… Previously I was working for a residential care organisation when the opportunity to study towards a Business Admin apprenticeship became available. I am always looking for opportunities to grow and develop myself, so I took the opportunity as soon as I could!
SS&L assisted me through the early stages of my apprenticeship. My tutor Claire, and the local staff at my local centre, supported me through exams, coursework, and research. I was so impressed by the collective assistance, and the shining reputation of SS&L, that I applied for a role that they were advertising. Luckily for me, they accepted!
I have now been at SS&L for 5 years and have completed my apprenticeship with them. The apprenticeship made me consider new aspects of my role and made me flex academic muscles that I hadn’t used in a while! I was also able to top up my Functional Skills qualifications along the way.
I’ve had so many opportunities to continue my growth within SS&L and feel extremely supported to do so. I became an Executive Assistant and supported the SS&L Board and Management Team with a range of responsibilities.
To continue my journey, I have recently started another apprenticeship – this time, a Level 4 Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner programme! This course will support me in my new role of Data Protection Officer, and other new responsibilities.
Had you asked me in 2018, I would’ve said that all apprentices were young and at the start of their careers… Well, I know better now and can confirm that I am neither young NOR at the start of my career! Apprenticeships are for everyone and provide great opportunities for many different growth paths.”
