Narrowing the gap…

Nearly everything we do today involves some level of digital skill. The need for these skills will only increase as technology advances, integrates more into our lives and becomes part of our everyday, whether at work or home.

Perhaps surprisingly, it’s estimated that 20% of adults lack basic digital skills, whilst 8% have no digital skills at all. This gap needs to be addressed and, in September 2020, the Department for Education introduced digital skills qualifications designed to support adults who want to learn digital skills for life, work or for use in further study.

Don’t be afraid to start with the basics

It’s easy to assume that everyone is digitally literate. That’s not the case and people’s skills vary enormously. So, it’s best to start with the basics, building a strong foundation that makes adding new skills on top much easier.

Our free Essential Digital Skills Beginner and Intermediate online qualifications are designed to help support your development with digital literacy skills, encouraging progression into roles where digital literacy is required. They will enhance your personal skills and professional development. These courses run for 12 sessions, which you can start at any time. Sessions take place on set days each week and are tutor led online, so you can be sure of support right when you need it.

When you’re ready to go further

We also offer Level 2 Digital Skills for Work, a free, online qualification that will improve your competency, supporting you within your current job role or giving the opportunity for progression into a role where digital skills are required. This course is run via distance learning, where you can choose to learn at your own pace, at a time and place to suit you. You will have a tutor to support you, as and when you need help.

Not sure which one to choose?

If you’re not sure what course would suit you, we run Essential Digital Skills – Taster Courses, so you can try it out and receive expert guidance from our tutors regarding your next steps.

There really is something for everyone and we’re committed to helping you improve your options, job prospects and your daily life. For more details visit out Digital Skills page.
