Our trainees find it fun to learn…
As part of our traineeship programme, (pre-apprenticeship), we want our trainees to engage with real employers and gain an understanding of the workplace and what it takes to get and keep a job.
In November, we were lucky enough to be invited to Palette & Pasture Somerset Gelato based at Pyle Farm, in the village of Trudoxhill, near Frome. Palette and Pasture make delicious gelato from their dairy herd at Pyle Farm and are very supportive of our trainee and apprenticeship programmes.
In all, nine learners visited Palette & Pasture where they were given a tour of the farm and ice cream factory. Paul Candy, Proprietor, explained how the farm operates and we learnt lots of interesting facts and information. A careers talk was given by Rachel Candy, with an insight into the ice cream business. Palette & Pasure employ over fifteen people, so our trainees were able to learn about the different job roles and the skills required, such as milker, ice cream maker, groundsman, animal husbandry, event planner, customer service assistant – the list goes on…
It was an extremely valuable experience for our trainees, which was topped off with sampling the ice cream and pumpkin bashing! At the end of the season the farm has some pumpkins left over, so everyone was able to let off steam by jumping, throwing and smashing pumpkins. The trip was a real success with plenty of learning and lots of fun!
