SS&L Apprentice of the Month – April 2025
A big well done to Angel! Our Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprentice has been named SS&L Apprentice of the Month for April 2025.
Angel has impressed both her colleagues and tutor with her commitment, progress, and attitude. Her confidence has shot up since beginning her placement at Northgate Primary School in Bridgwater over a year ago – you would never suspect she initially felt unsure of herself in the role!
Angel, 22, has had a lifelong desire to work with children, and knew an apprenticeship would give her the experience to reach her goal.
“Working with children is always something I have been interested in, but wasn’t sure if I had the skills to do so,” she said.
“With some encouragement, I applied for the apprenticeship online and was fortunately given an opportunity at Northgate Primary School.”
Angel works in the school’s reception class. She helps the children to become independent and learn new skills through pastoral support – but it doesn’t end there!
“I regularly carry out adult-led activities and also have a small phonics group which I take every day,” she added.
Angel’s commitment to learning has impressed her tutor, Sarah Gill, who has watched on proudly as she gained confidence as a Teaching Assistant apprentice.
“Angel was a very quiet person when she first began the course – she wasn’t sure if she was going to be good in this role, but quickly found her feet, and now it seems like she’s been a TA forever,” Sarah said.
“She has a very nurturing character – bonding quickly with the children she meets and using their interests to really motivate and engage them.”
Angel has even been helping newer learners to get to grips with their work, and has become someone they all look up to.
Staff at Northgate Primary School have been equally impressed by Angel’s impact, but none more so than her mentor, Rich Coath.
“Angel has made an incredibly positive impact with the children in our class. She is very kind and caring and the children all feel they can talk to her,” he said.
“She works hard and will always try to help whatever the situation. We are proud of the progress that she has made since she started here with us and are delighted that she has been given this award.”
Thanks to her apprenticeship, Angel has realised new goals of potentially becoming a SEN Support Worker or teacher with the new skills she has gained.
