SS&L Apprentice of the Month – August 2025

Congratulations to Kim, Our Early Years apprentice, who has won the SS&L Apprentice of the Month Award for August 2025!

Kim, who is in her 30s, had previously worked in pubs and cafes before becoming a cleaner at Leweston School in Sherborne. 

“I became friendly with the nursery staff and started interacting with the children, making them smile and laugh,” Kim said.

“A few of the nursery staff said there was a job going and that I should go for it as I was really good with the children.”

Starting out on her apprenticeship, Kim worked hard to complete written coursework after not being in education for quite some time. Her tutor, Nicky Deady, commended Kim’s commitment, as she also completed a Level 2 Functional Skills course in English to make sure her written work was top-notch!

Thanks to her hard work and dedication, Kim recently completed her Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship. It doesn’t end there however, as she’s about to start her Level 3 Early Years Educator course whilst remaining at Leweston Nursery.

“It’s one of the most joyful and fulfilling jobs, just watching the children growing and learning new skills, and knowing that as a practitioner, we can make a difference,” she said.

“I was really drawn to this apprenticeship with SS&L because it offers a fantastic opportunity to combine hand on experience with formal training in becoming a practitioner.

“I’m practically interested in SEND because it aligns perfectly with my career goal of working with children with additional needs.”
