SS&L Apprentice of the Month – September 2025
Congratulations to Malachi, our Teaching Assistant apprentice, who has won the SS&L Apprentice of the Month Award for September 2025!
At just 17 years old, Malachi has already begun his path toward a future career in education. With a passion for mathematics and a keen interest in supporting KS2 children, he has embraced his apprenticeship at Shoscombe with enthusiasm and dedication.
As a recent school leaver, this is Malachi’s very first role, and it has given him a real insight into what it’s like to work within a school community. When he spotted the apprenticeship opportunity, he knew it would be the ideal way to gain valuable hands-on experience while working toward the qualifications he’ll need to achieve his ultimate goal, becoming a teacher!
In his role, Malachi works closely with the teacher in a mixed Year 3/4 class, supporting children with their learning and development. His apprenticeship has also opened the door to new challenges and experiences, including the opportunity to teach a whole-class computing session in his last term.
“My favourite thing about being an apprentice is how I can study and work at the same time, giving me both theoretical and hands-on experience in the education sector while pursuing the job I want. Upon completing my apprenticeship, I hope to go to study primary education at Bath Spa University to get a degree and obtain QTS so I can become a class teacher, which is in line with my career goals.”

Tutor comments
Malachi’s tutor, Louise, describes him as an exemplary apprentice who the school holds in very high regard. Passionate about maths, Malachi leads specific interventions, activities and sessions with confidence, often without the need for class teacher support.
He works extremely hard on his apprenticeship coursework, writes at a high academic level, and has achieved distinctions in all of his work so far. He continues to build a broad knowledge of primary education and contributes effectively to every class discussion.
Looking ahead, Malachi aspires to become a primary education teacher. He has already dedicated considerable time to preparing his UCAS application, including a detailed and concise personal statement that he plans to submit in the autumn.
🎉 Congratulations again to Malachi. We look forward to hearing about your next success! 🎉
