SS&L Apprentice of the Month – January 2025

Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice Louise has been named SS&L Apprentice of the Month for January 2025. Since joining the team at St John’s C of E First School in Frome, Louise has shown “amazing commitment”, which recently led to her being offered a permanent position at the school.

Her tutor, Lou Seymour, said that Louise has not only gone “above and beyond” in her position, but has also submitted excellent coursework with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

As a result of her efforts, she has been offered the chance to work at St John’s as a SEN Learning Assistant.

Louise, a dedicated single parent who has overcome significant personal challenges, has become an invaluable member of the school community, and is now completing the End-Point Assessment portion of her apprenticeship in order to become a permanent fixture as soon as possible.

After previously working in retail and finance, she decided to sign up for a Schools apprenticeship with SS&L so that she could learn on the job.

“This career path is definitely the best,” Louise said.

“My favourite part about working at St John’s is the team and the children, no day is the same!

“I enjoy having new tasks to do with the children and watching them learn.”

Mrs Teresa Gilbert, Headteacher at the school, added: “Louise has settled in at St John’s so well as an Apprentice Teaching Assistant that we sometimes forget she is still training on the job! She works hard to support teaching and learning in a range of classes and is keen to challenge herself to take on new roles and responsibilities. 

“Louise gets to know the children in her care well and understands the importance of building positive relationships with them in order to provide effective support.  She is a great team player and both staff and children at the school appreciate the support that she provides throughout the day.”
