Course Overview
The Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeship is ideal if you’re working in a middle management role with responsibility for leading teams, delivering projects, and driving operational success across your organisation.
Whether you’re in the private, public or third sector, this programme will help you build the leadership and management skills needed to run day-to-day operations effectively while contributing to strategic business goals.
You’ll gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours to lead with confidence and clarity—supporting individuals and teams, managing resources, overseeing projects, and ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies. You’ll also develop a strong understanding of how your role fits within the wider organisation, and how to support ethical, inclusive and sustainable ways of working.
This course is a great next step if you’re ready to take on more responsibility and lead change in your organisation.
Duration
It’s anticipated that it will take 24-30 months to complete this qualification (inclusive of EPA) but this will be discussed with you when you start.
Entry Requirements
You are required to have either a Level 3 qualification or significant experience (3 years or more).
Requirements for English and Maths will be dependent upon age, previous qualifications, and chosen apprenticeship standard. This will be discussed during the application process. Full support is given to any applicant required or desiring to work towards their Maths and English qualifications.
You will need a laptop to complete work and access information throughout the course. Delivery will be online.
Fee Information
Your training is fully funded by contributions from the government and your employer.
To receive government funding, you must currently live in England and have lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years.
Assessment
As this is an apprenticeship standard, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of your programme, once you’ve passed through a gateway review with your training provider and employer.
The assessment includes two parts:
-
A work-based project with a written report.
-
A professional discussion, supported by a portfolio of evidence you’ll build throughout your apprenticeship.
These assessments are designed to reflect your real work and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours you’ve developed.
Progression
On completion of this apprenticeship, you’ll be eligible to apply for professional membership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) or the Institute of Leadership. With at least three years of management experience, you may also be able to work towards Chartered Manager status.
This qualification can open up progression into a range of senior roles, such as:
-
Operations Manager
-
Department Manager
-
Area Manager
-
Regional Manager
-
General Manager
-
Specialist Manager
It’s a great stepping stone if you’re looking to grow your leadership career or move into more strategic management positions.
